Activity Assay

The specific activity was determined by the dose-dependent simulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells (human erythroleukemic indicator cell line).

Reconstitution

Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening. It is recommended to reconstitute the protein in sterile PBS containing 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant human serum albumin.

Stability & Storage

Use a manual defrost freezer and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. In general: 12 months from date of receipt, -20 to -80°C as supplied. 1 month, 2 to 8°C under sterile conditions after reconstitution. 3 months, -20 to -80°C under sterile conditions after reconstitution.

Protein Description

LIF is a pleiotropic member of the IL6 family of cytokines produced by multiple cell types, including T cells, myelomonocytic lineages, fibroblasts, liver, heart and melanoma. LIF functions through a heterodimeric receptor complex containing a ligand binding subunit, LIF R, and a signal transducing subunit gp130 with complex effects. LIF either induces or inhibits differentiation in different cell environments. LIF promotes long-term maintenance of pluripotency in embryonic stem cells by suppressing spontaneous differentiation. Other activities include the stimulation of protein synthesis by hepatocytes, and differentiation of cholinergic nerves acute phase protein synthesis by hepatocytes, stimulation of differentiation of cholinergic nerves, and suppression of adipogenesis by inhibiting the lipoprotein lipase in adipocytes.
