Quality Control & Biological Activity
Every lot of StemImmune Recombinant Human BMP-4 undergoes quality control testing to support consistent performance in stem cell and developmental biology applications.
Purity Analysis:
Recombinant Human BMP-4 purity is determined by SDS-PAGE and is routinely greater than 95%.
Biological Activity:
Biological activity is measured by the ability of BMP-4 to induce alkaline phosphatase production in ATDC-5 mouse chondrogenic cells. In the representative assay shown above, the EC50 was approximately 5 ng/mL.
Why It Matters: Human cell-expressed BMP-4 provides strong biological performance for demanding stem cell differentiation, mesoderm induction, organoid culture, and regenerative medicine workflows.
Recommended Reconstitution
Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening. It is recommended to reconstitute the protein in sterile 4 mM HCl containing at least 0.1% human or bovine serum albumin.
After reconstitution, prepare single-use aliquots and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Stability & Storage
- Use a manual defrost freezer and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
- As supplied: stable for up to 12 months from date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -80°C.
- After reconstitution: stable for up to 1 month at 2°C to 8°C under sterile conditions.
- After reconstitution: stable for up to 3 months at -20°C to -80°C under sterile conditions.
Protein Description
Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4 (BMP-4) is a member of the transforming growth factor beta family, which includes multiple structurally related bone growth factors. BMP-4 is widely expressed from early embryogenesis through adulthood and plays important roles in cartilage and bone formation, mesoderm induction, tooth development, limb formation, and fracture repair.
Mature human BMP-4 is a 116 amino acid protein and is normally found as a homodimer. Dimerization is facilitated by a disulfide bridge formed between the monomers, and each monomer contains three intrachain disulfide bridges arranged in a cystine knot motif.
BMP-4 signals through receptor complexes composed of type I and type II BMP receptors and downstream SMAD pathways. The bioavailability of BMP-4 is regulated by interactions with multiple proteins and glycosaminoglycans.
